My husband’s all time favorite drink is an old fashion and he’s perfected it! I’m not a fan of whiskey drinks, but lots of you all have requested his recipe, so here we go!
What You Need:
2 oz. whiskey/rye of choice
Bitters to taste (some recipes say 2-3 dashes, but do more if you want to taste them)
2-3 candied orange peels
Black cherry garnish (brandied, bourbon, etc.)
Tsp of cherry juice (from the jar)
Glasses (ours are linked here)
Instructions:
Candied Orange Peel Instructions:
– Cut and peel oranges, slice the peels
– Fill small-to-medium pot with 3-5 cups of water
– Add 2 cups of sugar to the water and bring the water to boil
– Add the orange peel slices to the boiling sugar water and lower temperature to simmer for 45 minutes
– Take out the orange peels and put them on foil or parchment paper, sprinkle sugar on top
– Let them dry
– Use as many as you want and freeze the rest in a plastic container (then you get an orange peel and an ice cube)
Add a dash of the leftover sugar water (simple syrup). I don’t keep this water though, you can use a stevia replacement for leftovers.
XOXO,
Laura Elizabeth
