Dealing with Change

Good afternoon, friends!

So I have some exciting family news!! My sweet Daddy RETIRED yesterday and he is so excited! He worked for Y-12 National Security Complex over 28 years.. the same company for 28 YEARS – wow!! He had an amazingly successful career and I am extremely proud of him. He, along with my mom, have thought me to be hard working, a team player, professional, resilient, consistent and how to remain positive in my life and now in my career. Along with these necessary skills, they have also taught me to be kind and uplifting to everyone who surrounds me. They have led by example. My husband and I both do not take our parents for granted; we strive to be half of the parents they are to our future children.

This topic had me really thinking about change.. Change can be scary. My dad has been working at the same company, 5 days a week, for almost 30 years. His life is about to drastically change. Thankfully, he is ready to retire and is ready for this change; however, a lot of the time, we are not ready for change. I remember when I was graduating from college.. I was scared. I wasn’t ready for all of my friends to move away and I definitely wasn’t ready to give up everything I knew – I had been going to school for as long as I remember. This goes along with moving on from middle to high school, high school to college, getting married, expecting a child, loving a loved one, etc. The list goes on and on and on.

The only thing that is consistent in our lives is CHANGE.

We all grow. Time goes on. Our children grow up. Things change. Again, the list goes on and on.

Last Sunday, our preacher briefly touched on this subject. He told the story of the Manna from Heaven. For those of you who are not familiar with this Bible story, Manna was the miraculous “bread of heaven” ( Psalm 78:24 ) that God provided for the Israelites while he led them through the Red Sea on dry ground and into the Wilderness of Sin.

It came each morning, except on the Sabbath day. It could be collected each day for that day alone, and only as much as could be eaten in one day. If a person tried to collect more than needed or to store the manna for future needs, it would grow wormy and foul. So, it was impossible for the Israelites to evade total dependence on God or to use the manna greedily for personal gain. Miraculously, the manna could be preserved on the sixth day and eaten on the Sabbath, and it was not found on the Sabbath morning.

As hard as it is to realize sometimes, He will provide for us. We need to trust in Him every single day. “We can depend upon Jesus, the Bread of Life, for any and all of our needs. Nothing and no one else will satisfy. In a time of crisis that requires an immediate well-timed help, He is there. He has promised to take care of us not just for eternity, but also for our immediate needs.”

What are depending on Him for today?

XOXO
